You're Only a Success for the Moment You Complete a Successful Act: 2024 Portfolio Review
Back in 2020, it felt like the world was ending.
If your livelihood depended on being out of the house, you were screwed.
Simple as that.
Activities were limited: I rode my bike at closed indoor parks and turned the garage into a gym with my partner. It wasn’t perfect, but we made it work.
And while the world was falling apart, Netflix gave us something incredible: The Last Dance.
One of the greatest sports documentary of all time.
As someone who played ball in high school during the 90s and early 2000s, there was no way I wasn’t watching it. And, man, it delivered. I’ve probably watched it 10 times in the last five years.
There’s one moment that stuck with me. It didn’t hit right away, but eventually, it landed.
Phil Jackson, the Zen Master himself, tells the Bulls:
He then said “You have to do it again!”
That’s it. That’s the game.
The Bulls knew this better than anyone. They had two three peats, six titles in eight years. MJ retired in the middle, came back, and they did it all over again.
Why This Matters:
2020 was my first triple digit year managing money. Triple digits! I was on top of the world for that moment.
Then that quote brought me back down to Earth. It wiped my ego clean
.
It also set me up for 2021, where I pulled a 179% return. I give full credit to that quote for keeping me focused.
Because who gives a f**k about what I did last year?
That won’t make me a single dollar in 2025.
So here’s the deal: this is the last time we talk about last year’s returns.
When the next portfolio review drops, we’re starting the year at 0%.
Why?
Because now, I have to do it again.
Let’s get after it.
