Dyslexia, Trading, and the Drive to Succeed
Letting Go of Comparison: The Key to Trading Success
Passion and gratitude for what I get to do every day have been my anchors. They pulled me through the tough times and continue to carry me when things get hard.
No matter how challenging the journey, I’m reminded how lucky I am to do something I truly love.
Trading, though, has been one of the hardest things that I’ve ever done. Nothing about this business or life, for that matter, has ever felt easy for me.
Growing up with dyslexia was a constant challenge. Tools like Speechify, audiobooks, and Dyslexie font honestly changed my life for the better, but throw in an auditory processing disorder, and some days still feel completely overwhelming.
For a long time, these challenges made me feel like I was living in a world separate from everyone else. I’d watch my friends breeze through things that took me hours.
A 30-minute homework assignment? Five hours of struggle for me.
Back then, they did not tell you that there are auditory learners, visual learners and more…
They just told you that you were stupid.
But that experience shaped how I see the world. It forced me to stop looking to others for validation and start figuring things out in my own way.
That’s something traders, struggle with. There’s always this obsession with what others are doing, watching someone on Twitter you don’t even like killing it, or comparing yourself to the perma bears who somehow nailed a massive return, or the perma bulls who crushed it in 2022.
It’s endless.
Mostly, lies… even if it is true, it does not matter. It is not you and it won’t help you.
Progress can be slow as a trader so you have to stop paying attention to the things that don’t matter, and remember that every step you take is building toward something bigger.
It took me over four years to have my first profitable year as a trader.
Now, I’ve outperformed the SPX for six years in a row and trying to make it seven.
This journey has taught me that the hardest paths often lead to the most rewarding places.
You just have to keep going, even when it feels impossible.
Enjoy the weekend with your families my friends!
